I just wanted to say thanks to everyone involved in GG7. I wish the situation would have been better for Elizabeth and I but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I was looking forward to introducing Elizabeth to everyone and she was looking forward to putting faces to all these names and email messages so she would understand what on earth I was blabbing about. Unfortunately her grandmother became very ill and she had to leave early. A day or so later her grandmother passed away, however Elizabeth did get to spend time with her which was very good for the both of them. All your thoughts were greatly appreciated and well received by Elizabeth.
Thus due to matters of life and death I didn’t really play too many games. Die Macher, Mississippi Queen, GMT WWII fighter game, Overthrone, Babel, Entdecker, Dio de los Muertos, Carcassone, Downfall...was that it? I can’t think of anything else at the moment.
Die Macher was the highlight of weekend for me. Derk (to my left.. .hehehe), Marcia, Ben and Vonda were all quite fun to play with for four or five hours strait. For once Derk didn’t have any complaints about my game play and aimed all of his verbal bombastity on Ben, whom Derk thought I had mesmerized or something. The game ended right before the prizetable and for 10 or so minutes I was able to strut about the room with the coveted Die Macher medal upon my chest. However as appropriate to Florida a recount was done and Vonda was shown to be the winner. Ah well, still a delightful game.
I was really impressed with Overthrone. I’ve owned the game for a year or more and like so many others didn’t want to bother slogging through the rules to play the game. However once it was taught to me it was a cinch and I found it quite enjoyable.
After playing Frank’s Muertos game I’m allowing myself to own a trick taking game. Don’t normally care for them but I had a good time with this one, despite getting crushed.
The WWII Fighter card game, whatever its called, was also a pleasant surprise. Despite the thickness of rules the game was simple to play and rather fun. As Ken said, “This games a joke!” once it clicked in him how strait forward the gameplay was. Mind you, this isn’t meant to be bad, but that rulebook was very thick and once he realized how easy the game was we zipped along.
This is all I have time for at the moment…it was great to see everyone again and that in the end the ultimate highlight of the week. Hopefully I be in Nashville in August.
