Gulf Games 10: Al Newman

Savannah, Georgia
August 1 – 4, 2002

What can I tell you? GG surpassed everything I thought it might be.

It always amazes me how games wind up being second to the renewal of old friendships and the start of brand new ones. GG was an incredibly *rich* experience and with one son grown to 22 and the other now 15, it was wonderful being able to share this experience with the kids. Matt had the most awesome time!

Greg, Ty & Ted worked a miracle with GG and I cannot believe how lucky Matt & I were to be two of the recipients of the joy of this gathering of wonderful folks.

How can I ever forget these few days?

My sincere thanks to all those who made this event possible.

And Kayla, remember, it wasn’t a goodbye…..we’ll all be seeing each other again.

Love to you all

I cannot believe the preparation that went into making this event. Vickie & Tim & Greg are the absolute tops for their devotion in making the room into a gamer’s paradise.

The album covers and tabloids were great and I’m looking forward to seeing them up on the web for closer examination. Talk about detail. All those medals!!!! Must’ve taken weeks to do!

Highlight: playing Plem Plem with Craig, not once but twice! Just to show you how great a designer Kramer is,we were still going over the rules and were already laughing hysterically. One of the requisites is to make up a name for yourself that the other players will have difficulty remembering.Such as, Craig chose “the almighty and powerful etc etera, lord of something or other spunky” in our second game. Of course, one time Craig forgothis own name and had to take a “blackout” chip. In our first game,Matt was “jim jiminy jim jim, little jim jim.” I was “Fluglemeister Humperdunck” in the first game and”Gallaboomzy Pinkledinker” in the second. Maybe you had to be thereto appreciate the lunacy.

Plem Plem is a bunch of drinking games all rolled together and is designed for side splitting laughter.

Also high on my list was Squint, which got a lot of play and a warm reception everywhere it came out on the table. The game is from Out of the Box and is by far the best they have done since Apples/Apples.

There’s so much more that I guess the best thing to do is just write about it as things pop up. And I’m sure they will….
