Gulf Games 10: Richard Glanzer

Savannah, Georgia
August 1 – 4, 2002

What a great time. Family, friends, and games. No sleep. It doesn’t get any better.

For Greg, Gail, Vicki and Tim:

The hours of work in preparation…
Finding a city, picking a location, negotiating good deals for us…
Organizing and delegating work.
Making sure everything gets done on time.
Handling special requests and pleas from us and our families.
Taking time away from each other to make this happen.
A big thank you. You have created a wonderful legacy of friendshipa nd love.

To Ben, Marcia, Jason & Vonda, and Mark:

You were all very much missed

Whenever I would see them, their smiles always made me smile. Thank you for enriching each day with your smiles.
Corny, but true.

Larry Levy. A thanks for teaching Toni & Jeffrey Puerto Rico. Our game lasted 3 hours. We ate dinner. We stood up, walked around.Chatted. And played so languidly, that I wish I could play Puerto Rico this way every time.

Best rules teachers:

Again Larry Levy. And Joe Huber.
It makes me realize what I need to do to get better. And makes me appreciate how a good teacher makes a gaming experience even more enjoyable.

Fresh Fish:

Bought this a year ago. Finally got to play it. Joe Huber taught it. Made it seem easy. Now that I understand it, I can’t wait to play it again. Really a great game.

The Liars Dice tournament:

Got down to one die immediately, and fought off other liars to win my table. Great fun. Lost to the grand liar, Kayla, in the finals. Way to go Kayla.

Crokinole:

Man that competition is rough. Chris and Lenny misses two shots in 3 hours. They are good. And really deserved the win. I never knew I could play too much Croke, but now I have.

K-ban:

Great CD. Been listening to it when I get in my car. Never knew anyone besides me liked Phil Ochs. Couldn’t believe that one song had ” Crokinole” in the lyrics. How did you ever find that one?

Pick Two:

After playing Vicki I felt like I needed a vacation. She is one tough girl. That game is stressful. But I do love it.

Werewolf:

Love the game but I didn’t get much opportunity to play it.Played 2X and got killed off quickly each time BUT I so loved Sandi’s new Werewolf set. She is so creative. It adds so much to the experience. If only she could do this full time…

Cracker Barrel:

Great place to eat. Never had chicken and dumplings before. Yum.Great macaroni and cheese. Grits made the way God intended.

Foppen:

Great trick taking game taught by Joe Hube. Now if only I can figure out how to make my own deck or find one…

Quacksalbe:

Patients are dying…
Don’t let them die in your office.
Send them to Dr. Joe Huber
Again a big thanks. Fun game. My wife, the nurse will get a hoot out of this one, If only I could find a copy.

Puerto Rico:

Played for the first time (really). As good as everyone says. Thanks for putting up with my slow play. You know who you are.

Compatibility:

Frank & Sandi showed Toni and I the right way to play it. We were slaughtered! Frank & Sandi thought as one. Toni and I…
We need more time together practicing.
