Well, Sheryl and I are back home. After the tearful good byes, we did some shopping at the Visitor Center and Pottery Factory, had a great dinner at the Chophouse (I hope some other folks discovered this marvelous restaurant), and then drove home, to be joyfully reunited with our doggies. We are currently recovering from it all, particularly the entirely justified lack of sleep.
We both had a fantastic time. Sheryl’s coming-out party (as the ever-elusive Vera) was a great success and she thoroughly enjoyed the gaming and, particularly, the people. I really want to thank all the people who made her feel welcome, but it almost isn’t necessary, as there was never any question in my mind that this would occur. If we can swing it, we’ll both be coming down to Pensacola next February.
Let me take a moment to send a personal message to Richard Glanzer. You no doubt remember that you set Michael Labranche and me up in a game of Mattix (which we both enjoyed as much as you said we would) late on Saturday. You asked us to give the game to one of your sons when we were done, as you were heading out early this morning. Unfortunately, at the game’s conclusion, there were no members of the Glanzer family to be found. I couldn’t think of anything else to do except to take the game home myself. I’ll bring it to the next GG that we both attend, so I can return it to you. Thanks for showing me the game and sorry about the confusion.
Let me once again thank Greg, Vickie, Tim,Craig, Kim, and all the others who put so much time into making this wonderful event the showpiece it is. A special tip of the hat goes to Ted and James for their terrific comedy routine based around Alan Moon’s games (and how great is it to have enough published games to be able to base a ten minute routine around it?). Gulf Games remains the highlight of my gaming year and I look forward to more and more wonderful memories in the years to come.
