Gulf Games 13: Comments

Pensacola Beach, Florida
February 19 – 22, 2004

“I just wanted to say that this was another terrific Gulf Games and I had a fabulous time as usual. Tim and Vickie outdid themselves with the festive decorations. Heartfelt thanks to them, Greg, James, and everyone whose hard work goes into making this the premier gaming get-together twice a year. And a huge round of applause to all the participants, particularly the newcomers who, amazingly, fit right in with the spirit of the Games, just like they do every year.Gulf Games keeps getting better and better. ”

“It is interesting what GG does for my mood for days and weeks after it is all over. The lightening of the spirit and sudden memories of good times had at GG brings smiles and release endorphins for some time afterwards. ”

“Thank you, thank you, thank you to Vicki, Tim, Greg, Gail and others for all your hard work and efforts. It was an absolutely fantastic weekend. Only 155 days until we can doit again! ”

Cary here. We’ve all had the experience of walking into a new school, a new job, or even a party, and wondering how long it will take the established group to become friendly to the newcomer. The answer at Gulf Games 13 – my first – was “instantly.” I walked into the room and four strangers said, “Want to play?” (It was Joe Huber’s tanning competition card game, which I won!)

My expectation of GG13 was that I’d play a few games I knew, then take a book to the beach or a camera to the Fort for some R & R while Philip kept on playing. Ha! I think we got out into the sunshine and felt the cool white sand under our feet a few times, but I never got tired of the games. Even when I retired “early,” I stayed up until 1 or 2am jotting notes for a game I might create.

Thank you to everyone who taught me new games (Attika and Santiago are new favorites) and those who played and chatted with me and especially to the amazing crew – Greg and Vickie & Tim et. al. – who made this a wonderful, memorable experience. ”

“We all had fun as always. It was great to see old friends and to make new ones. I just wish it was longer. I loved to see Cary’s reaction to GG because it so mirrored mine after my first one. Hard to believe it was only 5 years ago. I only went because it was at the beach. I thought I might play a game or two. Now the people from GG are some of our best friends and we look forward to each meeting.

As always, thank you to Greg, Tim, Vickie, James, and everyone else who helps to make this one of the high points of our year. ”

“This was our first Gulf Games experience, and we know that it can never be our last. From the very moment that we walked in the doorway, to the very moment that we left on Sunday mid-day, we felt welcomed, inspired, encouraged, excited, and truly content to be a part of such a wonderful new family. We can’t wait until GG14 (we turned in our registration form first thing Sunday morning)!!!!

Thank you to everyone who made this experience undeniably, unbelievably amazing. ”

“Everyone, thanks for a great time once again. It’s such a pleasure to be associated with such a fine group of people and such a gifted bunch of kids”

“I had a great time at GG 13. Thanks to everyone that organized an event, led a session, decorated, planned, cleaned up, took pictures, brought esoteric games, babysat, and in general, volunteered your time to make the event what it was. It was a lot of fun. To the new faces, thanks for attending. I don’t think you will ever regret the decision to become part of Gulf Games. I know I won’t! ”

Gulf Games 13 was simply awesome. Words cannot begin to describe the sheer joy I experienced. The atmosphere was amazing as the room was filled with tropical decorations, including a tiki hut that served as our beach bazaar. Everyone was in great spirits and there was a constant, lively buzz throughout the room. It was an amazing experience … something I cannot adequately describe.

Thanks so much to everyone for helping to not only keep the magic alive, but to make it grow even greater. Someone mentioned to me during the course of the event that we keep raising the bar and asked how we would keep doing it for future events. I can assure you that we’re gonna do our best to lift that bar even higher next time!

From the bottom of my heart, I want to say “thank you” to everyone for sharing their friendship and love with my family and me. You guys and gals are simply the greatest! ”

Greg Schloesser
“I just want to add here, though, Ed’s and my thanks and deep appreciation for the hard work and effort put into this event. You guys have outdone yourselves again, despite the “unlucky 13” mishaps (as told to me by Vickie) and just keep setting the bar higher! ”

“I would like to take the chance now that I am a bit more rested to thank everyone who made this another excellent experience for me. Special mention of course to Greg for inviting us to his home and for all his help, and of course to Tim and Vicki, but everyone was very friendly, and I know that Moira really enjoyed here first visit. I think if I attend a few more times people might even start to understand what I am saying…. ”
